I’m Janine & some people call me J.

IMG_8116I am the voice behind My Pennies, My Thoughts, my little corner of the internet. I’m a tax specialist, which sounds more boring than it actually is. I love money, more specifically wealth, and I’m here to help you grow your money tree into something that can sustain you and your lifestyle. I’ve never been that personal finance blogger that was interested in deprivation… and I’m a firm believer in practicing what you preach! I love my lifestyle and money has always been a way to ensure I can afford it.

To me it’s about being wise with your pennies. I want millennials to succeed… there are so many articles out there suggesting millennials won’t make it, or aren’t hard working, all of which I think are entirely false. So many of the millennials I know are incredibly career driven and have a burning passion to succeed. If that’s you, then you are in the right place.

I save aggressively, invest my money and spend where it counts. I track my spending which sound monotonous but I think I’ve found a way to make it fun [insert beautiful pie chart].

I’m also married to a wonderful man who is truly my best friend. We are newlyweds of only a few months and I’m hoping to capture the love that is our marriage on this little blog. We talk about everything, and we share everything about our lives and finances. You can do this to, I promise, I’ll show you how! 💍

On a more personal note I love to travel, on any given day I have a terrible case of wanderlust. ✈️ Travel has always been a passion of mine(did you see all the photos on the main page?), I want to explore the world we live in, there is so much to see! This isn’t a travel blog, but I promise to share my experiences travelling because they are such a big part of my life. Of course my favourite travel partner is my wonderful husband. Sharing your life with someone that is passionate and values the same things that you do is incredibly important. I feel so grateful that I’ve found someone that shares a love to experience the world, happiness is only real when shared. To ensure we maximize our vacation days and travel plans our household has to find a balance between saving for the future and exploring. We believe you can have your cake and eat it too, you just have to save for it first.🎂

Outside of the excel spreadsheets that consume my life and all of the writing I do all around the internet I enjoy coffee, ballet, sunflowers, rainy days, sunny days, cooking, making memories, friends, wine and a good book. Not necessarily in that order. This corner of the internet is dedicated to the gratitude I have in my life, and my passion to succeed and make something that can really make a difference.

Last, but certainly not least, I’m a woman in a male dominated industry, which can sometimes be tough. I love being involved in organizations that empower women to climb the corporate ladder, be in charge of their finances and truly make a difference. You can find my tribe here.💙

This blog started as my diary, a letter to my future-self that just kept growing, now it is turning over a new leaf and will continue to chronicle my life and money through my early-to-mid-twenties (oh god I’m almost 25!). I want to be a millionaire, and I know you want that too, maybe you don’t know how to do that… just yet. So pour yourself a glass of wine and stay while, I hope you learn something.🍷

    Good Afternoon
I just took in your everyone should start their own business seminar. I have a question about getting into the rental- real estate market and if its better to start a business in purchasing properties or just doing it personally ? I am going to start with one condo and hopefully purchase another at a later date if all works well.
