I’ve mentioned before how incredibly busy our household is with the husband travelling so much and myself working and studying for my designation exam. There are weeks where even grocery shopping seems like an impossible task because either one or both of us is jetting off to a different city or barely able to make it home before bedtime. Just a few months ago Chefs Plate came to Alberta and is in most major cities across Canada. You choose the dishes you want to make and they send you fresh, local ingredients! I had the pleasure of trying out this service just a couple weeks ago, and I have to say I’ve fallen in love.
Ordering from Chef’s Plate is ridiculously easy and allows you to pick 2, 3 or 4 meals you want to cook for the week. They arrive at your doorstep fresh and ready to cook! To me, the very best part is that Chef’s Plate includes one serving size (or the amount you need for your dish) of all the spices and sauces you will need! I find that’s the most expensive part of grocery shopping… if I want to try a new recipe I have to buy so many new things that end up costing me an arm and a leg. This way my problem is solved!
Throwing our meal together took no time at all. Between the two of us, we were able to chop up the veggies in a hurry and get everything we needed for our delicious shrimp stir fry in the pan in record time.
If you aren’t a chef don’t worry the recipes come on an easy to read and extremely straight forward recipe card. This recipe took 20 minutes from start to finish and the steak dish we tried took half an hour.
Coming home from a long day at the office and knowing exactly what it is you will be cooking in addition to having all the ingredients you need is pretty much the best thing ever. Both my husband and I make so many decisions on a daily basis that sometimes coming home to make the decision on what to eat for dinner seems like the largest task in the world. Chef’s Plate takes that decision out of the equation.
From a cost perspective for two people, Chef’s Plate costs about $10 a person per meal. Part of me knows that shopping at the grocery store could be cheaper for dinners but the other part of me knows that $10 for a home cooked, healthy meal is better than any pre-cooked semi-fast food dinner I could pick up on the way home. Chef’s Plate is the middle ground for busy families that still want to enjoy time at home cooking and eating dinner with their loved ones. Neither of us have time to hit the grocery store to pick up missing items every night of the week so having exactly what we need on hand is perfect for us.
Both of the meals we tried from Chef’s Plate we amazing. The recipes were easy to follow and we even had leftovers for lunch the next day! Plus the wine from our favourite vinyard paired perfectly.
